Message from the Board – Al Franklin, President

Happy Thanksgiving!  This is the time of the year when we look at all our blessings and give thanks. No matter how bad things may seem we are blessed in many ways.  Some of us will be traveling to be with family and some will have family visiting and hopefully everyone enjoys their time together.  Let’s hope that all who are traveling will be safe.

Thank you to the Recreation Committee members who are making all the arrangements for the upcoming Christmas Party on December 4th.

The Board of Directors has made a change to the Rules and Regulations. The change is as follows:

“If a State of Emergency is declared for this area, ALL activities on or in the Property Owners Association common facilities must be cancelled immediately. When the State of Emergency is terminated, activities can be rescheduled”.  All POA facilities will be closed during a State of Emergency.

This week the landscaping will be started around the pool. We have had all kinds of delays on this project, with the weather being the main cause of delay.  The next pool area project involves the building that houses the pool filters and pumps.  The building must be raised and a new concrete floor poured.  Also, we must replace the damaged wood in the building. We are in the process of getting bids for the work.

Per state law, all political signs must be removed within seven (7) days.  Please remove any existing signs from your properties immediately if you haven’t done so already.

THANK YOU TO OUR BULLETIN EDITORS CHRIS ARROTTI and MERRILEE BURNS

http://www.cliparthut.com/clip-arts/479/golfer-silhouette-clip-art-479553.jpgOn November 11th, the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association (CMGA) held its annual Turkey Shoot Tournament.  Twenty-four golfers participated in the tournament, which was designed to reward individual low-net performances.

The twelve golfers with the lowest net scores earned $20 gift cards for Thanksgiving turkeys.  The winners were Joe Broderick, Jim Burke, Keith Rogerson, George Balbach, Kerry Jarrell, Pete Larkin, Abe Glover, Chuck Karnolt, Mal MacRaild, Lynn Harbold, Mike Donahue, and Dick Boyle.  Congratulations to the winners and we wish all the participants a happy Thanksgiving.  Thanks go to Mike Donahue and Vince Hammerl for managing the tournament activities so well.

The CMGA will have a Christmas get-together at the golf clubhouse on Friday December 9th at 5 p.m.   All members, their spouses or guests, and senior members whose health prevents them from regular play are invited to join us for this event. There will be plenty of tasty hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.  There is a sign-up sheet for this event at the clubhouse, or call Kerry Jarrell at 575-2103 to hold your spot.  The Association also hosts regular league play every Friday.  A signup sheet is posted at the golf clubhouse.

The Association invites golfers of all skill levels to consider the benefits of joining our group. Membership in the CSMGA is open to residents of the Town of Carolina Shores over 18 years of age and to any members of the Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club.  Contact Kerry Jarrell, 575-2103, for information.  The Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club is still providing very affordable membership programs for avid golfers as well as occasional golfers.  Contact the Course to see which level of participation works best for you.

Needlework News – Flo Pflaster

MCj03012760000[1]Our group met on November 14, each of us working on our personal items, now that we have completed our project of knitting hats for the veterans. We decided we will begin working on cold weather items for the needy in our community. We will research groups who would like to receive homemade scarves, afghans, and yes!...hats. In the past, we have donated items to hospice and the Sheriff's department for distribution to the neediest in our area and want to continue this tradition. Please join us if you knit, crochet, or do any other kind of needlework craft. We are a small but friendly group who sit around the board room and chat as we create! Donations of yarn are always welcome.

The group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Board room at the POA clubhouse at 10:00 a.m. There are no officers or dues and anyone with an interest in any type of handiwork is welcome to join us. The next meeting will be on December 12, 2016.

Care Team – Flo Pflaster

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgThe Carolina Shores Care Team is a group that residents with a temporary need for some short-term help can contact.  We give rides to the doctor, the grocery store and even the nursing home when you have a partner who is in rehab.  We also can take your trash to the recycling center, fix you some hot meals or help take care of your pets when you are unable to care for them.

We have eighteen (18) volunteers on the team ready and willing to help when called on.   Just to make it clear, Flo Pflaster coordinates communication with the Team through the Nextdoorcarolinashores.com website.  If you are a volunteer, that is the way you will get a request to help a resident in need.

However, if you are someone who wants help, you just have to contact Flo Pflaster at 575-6243 or dfp324@atmc.net.  I will do my best to find someone to help you out.

2016 Tax Preparation – Barbara Hutton

The AARP Foundation and the IRS provide free tax preparation assistance to millions of people across the country.  This TaxAide program operates locally with tax preparation available at Hickman’s Crossroads Library beginning February 1.  Many residents of Carolina Shores have taken advantage of the program to have their tax returns completed.  All assistance is provided by trained, IRS certified volunteers.

For the 2017 tax year, more volunteers are needed to spend one four-hour session per week for 10 weeks assisting community members.  You do not need a financial or tax background, just a sincere desire to provide assistance and to work with the public.  All training and required materials will be provided in January.  If you have been looking for a volunteer opportunity which is a bit different, please consider this program.  For more information, or to have questions answered, please contact Barbara Hutton, Carolina Shores resident and Local Coordinator for the TaxAide program.  My number is 579-5324.
