Message from the Board – Jeff Alt, President

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Alt, and I have recently been elected as president of the Carolina Shores Property Owners Association Board of Directors to replace Joe Watts.

First, I would like to thank Joe Watts, the out-going president, for his service to the CSPOA and to the community. Joe resigned from the Board of Directors and as the board’s president in July. The Board reluctantly accepted his resignation, and we wish him well.

Second, Mr. Chris Edwards has been appointed to the open position on the Board of Directors and is now in charge of Grounds.

THANK YOU TO OUR BULLETIN EDITORS LINDA RUGG and MERRILEE BURNS

ACC Corner – Tom Wright, ACC Chairman

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. I have been in this neighborhood for the past seven years and I am pleased to take on the responsibility of helping Carolina Shores maintain its seaside charm, as well as the market values for each owner. The primary purpose of the architectural guidelines is to ensure any changes or additions are consistent with the community’s overall design and aesthetics. Carolina Shores POA and the Town of Carolina Shores work in conjunction with each other to assure homes are within the North Carolina and federal safety guidelines for today’s construction parameters. Both entities are concerned with maintaining the forested areas and work to trim and replace our trees according to the best forestry practices.

We are fortunate to have Committee volunteers that are familiar with the standards and experienced in the process of reviewing permit requests. We owe these volunteers our gratitude for giving their time each week to review the permit applications with a courteous and polite manner. Carolina Shores POA maintains diligent records of your homes, improvements and surveys that are available to all owners.

If you are thinking of making any outside changes or improvements, whether it be a simple paintjob, tree removal or more involved projects such as new driveways or roofs, please contact the Carolina Shores POA office Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to Noon or download the permit application forms from the Carolina Shores POA website (www.carolinashorespoa.org). Let us help you navigate through the process to support our properties’ charm and home values.

Recreation Committee – Mary Ann Williams

The next Happy Hour in the Park will be held Friday, September 15, at 5:00 p.m. at the POA pavilion by the pool. Join your friends and neighbors on the 3rd Friday of each month for a fun and very informal gathering. Our August theme transported us “Back to the Sixties” which brought back a lot of memories, tie dye shirts and headbands! The theme for September will be “Tailgating”! Wear your favorite sports team colors or gear, BYOB, and any snack you may want to share. Enjoy this opportunity to meet new friends and neighbors and catch up with those you already know. Hope to see you in September!

Come celebrate the Fall season with neighbors and friends at Oktoberfest on Sunday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m., also at the POA pavilion by the pool. Our grill will be fired up serving hot dogs and brats, accompanied by sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, and rolls.

BYOB and your choice of sides or a dessert for the sharing table. In order to determine the quantity of food to provide, the Recreation Committee members will again be distributing tickets, free of charge to our residents only, on Monday, September 18, through Thursday, September 21, and Saturday, September 23, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the POA clubhouse (not the office.)

Additionally, a very special end-of-season Happy Hour in the Park will be held on Friday, October 20, - complete with a DJ and door prizes!

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

stack of books isolated on white backgroundOur August reading selection, The Lincoln Highway, is a road trip book that follows the escapades of two boys in the 1950s who set out to find the mother who abandoned them. Even before they leave home, their trip is hijacked by two other boys who lead them on a collision course across the country. This novel, by Amor Towles, has been described as a “wonderful, heartfelt, and unforgettable read” and invoked a wide range of feelings among our members.

Our next meeting will be held on Friday, September 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the POA clubhouse. We will be discussing the novel, Horse, by Geraldine Brooks. At this time, we will also be compiling our reading list for the coming year. Each member is invited to submit the title of one book to be included on the list. Members who are unable to attend the meeting may send their submissions to Pat McKay.

I would like to update this list. As of now, there are 59 people who had let me know they would be available to help with neighbors’ needs at times. I get few responses, mostly from the same 3-4 people. So, if you no longer wish to be on this list, please text me at 910-368-1070 or email me at dfp324@atmc.net

If you would like to stay on this list and would prefer to get notifications by email instead of through Nextdoor, please email me at dfp324@atmc.net and I will send out a group email when someone needs help in our community.

If you need help, please continue to let me know by calling the above number or my home at 910-575-6243.

We have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you need to do is call or email me!
